I cannot speak for Muslims, but Jews are not allowed to eat Pork. Jews are only allowed to eat animals that have spilt hooves and that chew their cud. That's why cows are fine, as well as deer and goat and lamb. However, pigs only have split hooves but do not chew their cud. Yet, there is no prohibition to pet a pig (if you so desire) or move pork out of the way at the local meat section of your supermarket to get to something you want.

These rules are only superstitious means made by religious leaders to make their followers scared and paranoid so that they are easy to control politically.

I believe that the ban on eating pork originated because pigs carry the disease we now call trichinosis. Pork is safe to eat if it is thoroughly cooked, but in the days of the writing of the religious dietary restrictions this fact was not known. Therefore, pork was declared off limits. Since then, nobody has re-written those particular rules and so those who now follow those guidelines still do not eat pork.
