Why do men stand up when they're urinating? Where did this come from? Why don't they sit on the toilet like women do? I'm a housekeeper, and from experience, they sure can make a mess.

Many woman I meet think it's odd and unmanly to sit and urinate only. I sit because the bad aim can happen! And, you never know when that #1 will turn into a #2. If you're sitting, you don't have to lower the seat and change positions.

I thought I was odd until I found out my brother-in-law, who served in the army and traveled extensively in the Middle East, also sat.

Be glad you weren't a housekeeper in Egypt in Cleopatra's time. Men urinated sitting down, and women standing up. So...count your blessings! :-D

I think it is convenient, quick, and hygienic when they are outside.
So they continue do it inside the home out of laziness. I see no reason why they cannot sit down at least when they are in home. All men who has to clean their own bathrooms mostly sit down in their home.

Sandra,
It's a to each his own answer. Some men stand, some men sit, some men don't lift up the toilet seat, and some men are clean. It's a shame you have to clean up after them but I guess some just aren't toilet trained. We stand the majority of the time but when, ...duty calls we'll sit on the throne and do paper work, it's natures call.

squatting or sitting would be inefficient use of our energy. there is no benefit to sitting. if a woman doesn't sit i expect the urine would run down her legs. we don't have that problem.
