How come a lot of women who can't have children adopt children from other countries? Don't they know there are a lot of American children who need good homes?

Adoption through a state agency is expensive, time-consuming and overly restrictive.

Private adoptions are risky. Too many adoptions (and one is too many, although there have been many more) do not place the interest of the child above that of the birth parents and a birth parent who never knew that a child existed can lay claim to that child and rip that child away from the adoptive parents, regardless of what consequences it has on the child.

Another adoption myth is that there are a lot of babies to adopt. There aren't-- unless you're willing to take a baby with health problems (including being born with an addiction) or who is not white or who is not a newborn. Subject: Because America makes adoption nearly impossible

Because adopting any American child is usually a prohibitively expensive, multi-year, virulently intrusive, incredibly humiliating process primarily designed to keep kids from ever being adopted, and even if a COUPLE actually gets all the way through it, and is approved, there's no guarantee the incubator won't suddenly decide to take the kid back, as is her "right".

The laws which cause this are an absurdly over-the-top response to the adoption horror stories of previous decades, and until/unless they are changed or modified, a lot of COUPLES (not just women, sweetums) whose only desire is to provide a loving home for a child will continue to adopt overseas, where they aren't treated like pedophile slavers for even being interested in adopting, particularly if they are white.
